I'm working on a fashion magazine start-up and was wondering if we need to obtain permission from the designers whose clothes appear in our models. (The images are our own.) For example, if our model is wearing Chanel boots, do we need to get permission from Chanel before we run the photo?

I'm no lawyer, but I don't believe you need that permission, unless you are showing designs that have not been released. Common sense would say that once clothes are made available to the public, the design is also in the public domain. You should be free to photograph, describe, praise or criticize the clothes as you wish.
