Hello, Mr. Person! I love your website! The information has been extremely valuable! Anyway, I've got an online magazine that is starting very soon, but now I've hit a bit of a snag. I've been getting information from various websites and other sources (and of course crediting them in my article). However, I've had a little trouble with e-mailing some of these people, those who are in the field, to ask them specific questions and not only are they not very cooperative (all they have done so far is refer me back to the page I've already seen, where I got the e-mail address in the first place), but now I fear there may be a legal issue with using the information at all. Just to clarify, I'm not publishing this online magazine for profit, it's just for fun, as I won't be making any money off it anyway. Also, the information I get can be found in a number of unrelated sources, and I'm pretty sure it is not copyrighted. Also, I paraphrase everything, nothing is verbatim. So do you have any advice? Thank you so much!

The best way to cover yourself is to state in the e-mail that if they do not contact you in a certain amount of time or answer the question, you will assume that they agree with the information as you understand it. Then, if possible with your e-mail program, get confirmation that the e-mail was delivered and read. That way you show that you made a reasonable attempt to confirm the information.
