Mr. Person, I was wondering how to go about getting a sample of a magazine in order to approach advertisers. I am assuming this is not something I can do at my local Kinkos, so do I need to go to a publisher, and is so what do I take them? Pictures? Articles? Also, you are a consultant, correct? How do I find a consultant - maybe via phone or in person - to help with the whole start up process. I am in the Denver area. Thank you again!!!!
Actually, you probably could do it at Kinko's. Lay out the magazine in your graphics software and then have them print it on a color laser. But the best idea would probably be to get together with a graphic artist and have them make up the sample for you. If you have a good business plan, you could probably get by with just a cover and some sample pages. The important thing is to be able to clearly convey to the advertisers that you have a reasonable plan, you know what you are doing, and that you have the resources and fortitude to follow through on the project. As to the second part of your message, I am not a consultant. Check out www.publishinghelp.com. They are affiliated with a magazine consultant.
