Tom: My partner an I are planning on publishing a magazine that will focus on influential organizations, corporations and indivduals whose programs and services have impacted on Africa's development and growth. There seems to be lots of enthusiasm from the diplomatic corps , mutlinational companies and international agencies about the focus of the magazine but we are concerned about securing advertising support for the magazine. Are there consultants or independnet marketing experts out there who might be interested in working with us and can u offer some further guide on how to go about this in the most effective way?

I don't know personally of any publishing consultants who specialize in magazines, but you should check out these web sites: www.maginfo.co.uk and www.magazine.org You might also search for Magazine Publishing in www.about.com

Stanford University has a fairly comprehensive summer program for emerging magazine publishers. A few of the instructors/professors provide consulting services. I do not know what they charge, but the summer program is intensive (and expensive) with invited faculty from major national publications. Hope that helps.
